TENUTA DI BISERNO: ANTINORI BROS UNITE - April 02, 2008

If there's a new project in the Bolgheri that should command your attention it's Tenuta di Biserno, a joint venture between Antinori brothers, Lodovico and Piero. Having achieved success with their respective ventured in the Bolgheri, Tenuta di Biserno promises to bring even more attention to Tuscany's gold coast. The Tenuta di Biserno vineyards, located to the north of Bolgheri near Bibbona, were discovered over a decade ago when Lodovico Antinori was looking to expand the production of his venerable Ornellaia. Having noted the quality of the fruit was capable of producing a quality of fruit capable of joining Ornellaia, he and his brother decided to form a joint venture in 2001; then called Campo di Sasso. The rest, as they say, is now called Tenuta di Biserno. All three efforts are gorgeously hued, fruit-driven, wonderfully textured wines that show refinement and elegance while packing velvety punches. While not going for knock-out blows, each wine is focused, sure of spine, and will be just as enjoyable to drink in 3-5 years as they are now. Biserno's current releases include the peppery syrah/cab franc/merlot blend Insoglio del Cinghiale 2006 (89) that begs for braised game dishes; the rich and multi-layered Bordeaux blend Il Pino di Biserno 2005 (93); and the crown jewel, Coronato 2005 (92), a more penetrating and concentrated cabernet sauvignon based powerhouse that shows off what it can provide with relatively young vines. One yet unnamed wine will be the house flagship. Reviews Inside...... |
