Todd:
In general, I couldn't agree more with your points. Last night, I led a wine class at a shop here in Manhattan (I live in NYC) and on the topic of excellent summer whites, we kept talking about Italy. Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Falanghina, Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, Gavi, Arneis, the list is endless.
One wine that was real surprise was Wilhelm Walch's "Prendo" Pinot Grigio 2010 from the Dolomiti IGT. Fresh, vibrant acidity and wonderful minerality. Wow, who knew Pinot Grigio could be this good!? PG's are usually the Rodney Dangerfield of the wine world, they "don't get no respect."
Of course, there are a few CA winemakers trying to do something different with their Chards, less extraction, less oak, and more clean fruit.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the citation of my Morellino 2008, which is in fact one of my favourite, with a higher acidity and a bit more restraint than normal, I think it is drinking really well now.
